I work in a Call Centre and as most people know a call centre is shift work right? Well my company has approved only 2 shifts; 7am to 3pm and 2pm to 9pm which is fabulous won't you say? Well the boss wants to put in a 9am to 5pm shift which we so don't want but some people said they would work it...voluntary (mistake #1). (BTW it has not been approved)
WELL there was some hullaballoo about shifts for next week and the boss sent an email out with these options:-
- Shifts are rotated weekly and people stick to the shifts that they are rostered
- Shifts are created by the Team Leaders and staff have the option to switch accordingly ( bearing in mind that you have to do the work of the person you switched with).
- Switches can only be made in the categories in which you work eg: (IT, Claims; Customer service; telesales)
Now the first choice is shit because this is not a perfect world and life is a multi-faceted thing so switches need to be allowed.
Choice #2 is cool because everyone can do everyone elses job there are no specialisation and #3 WDA!! in some "categories" there are only 2 people so if the other person cannot switch what then? Of course Management don't care because she could come in when she want and leave when she want. That is the perogative of the post but we work overtime without pay and not even a thank you or a big up!
SO you know what? WORK TO RULE! to hell with it all. Here is my response:-
"With regard to the issues brought up by S, I do agree with her and Option 2 is the most viable plan. Everyone is equally able to function in every section of the Contact Centre with the exception of Telesales persons, who I was told can work at any time of the day since they do not take inbound calls.
That much said I would like to bring up the attached where a request was made to the Team Leaders to have the rosters done on a monthly basis. While this is not mandatory it will greatly ease the problem of employees not being able to organize their personal business in advance but instead on a week by week basis. We are not weekly paid workers but monthly and therefore time should be organized on a month by month basis.

I was real pissed when I wrote it but I think that it cam out very nicely and without a tone in it... But REALLY!!!! sometimes I wonder about people and there sense!!!
